Concussions Galore in the NHL.
Never before have I seen as many concussions in the NHL as I have this season, especially on star players. There are currently 25 players listed with a concussion or a head injury, according to TSN.ca.
- Marc Savard (BOS)
- Nathan Gerbe (BUF)
- Mark Olver (COL)
- Peter Mueller (COL)
- Kevin Porter (COL)
- Chuck Kobasew (COL)
- Radek Martinek (CBJ)
- Marcel Goc (FLA)
- Marek Zidlicky (MIN)
- Nino Niederreiter (NYI)
- Marc Staal (NYR)
- Michael Sauer (NYR)
- Milan Michalek (OTT)
- Ian Laperriere (PHI)
- Claude Giroux (PHI)
- Chris Pronger (PHI)
- Brayden Schenn (PHI)
- Kurt Sauer (PHO)
- Nick Petersen (PIT)
- Sidney Crosby (PIT)
- Kris Letang (PIT)
- Zbynek Michalek (PIT)
- Robert Bortuzzo (PIT)
- Andy McDonald (STL)
- Jay Beagle (WAS)
This doesn't even include the players who are listed with "upper-body injuries."
The NHL needs to ban all head shots. Concussions are a serious problem that could not only jeopardize these players careers, but also their lives. There should be absolutely no gray area when disciplining a head shot.
*Not all of these concussions were caused by illegal head shots.
